Description

Flexible & Stuck Thinking

Flexible thinking is essential in the social world. Many things we do every day require it: interpreting what others are saying and doing, understanding humor, learning in a classroom, working with others, being an effective employee, etc. The first step to becoming more flexible is developing awareness of our own and others’ stuck thinking. Join Michelle Garcia Winner for strategies to help individuals develop more flexible thinking and learn how our Superflex curriculum is part of this journey. Plus, discover which Social Thinking materials will help you teach this concept across different age groups!

After watching this webinar, infuse your teaching with the concept over the next month to help your students understand it deeply and meaningfully (avoid memorization). Then, tune in to the next webinar to learn how to build on this concept with best practices for teaching the concept size of the problem!

The 10 Concepts Webinar Series

This webinar is part of a series that shares best practices for teaching 10 core Social Thinking concepts over 10 months. Strengthen your students’ social-emotional learning by infusing your teaching with an additional concept each month over the course of the school year. We recommend learning about (and teaching) the concepts in order as they build on one another! If a date below has already passed, the webinar recording is available here for you to watch!

Become a Social Detective Before You Learn to Self-Regulate!

Instructor: Michelle Garcia Winner

We kick off our teaching by exploring the powers of Superflex and the Unthinkables. Prior to launching into this curriculum, our students need to develop cognitive awareness for self-regulation and superflexible thinking; we discuss social learning tools to do this. The power of social attention is explored, as is how we use it to make sense of the social world by figuring out the hidden rules in our classrooms, home, and community.

Job Coaching the Literal-Minded

It defines varying levels of the social mind as explained in Social Thinking’s Cascade of Social Attention and explains five social learning types in the Social Thinking–Social Communication Profile to help job coaches tailor guidance to individual needs and generalize to broader contexts.
