Join Us on a Learning Journey: 10 Concepts in 10 Months

Join us on a learning journey through the entire school year! Each month for the next 10 months our experts share best practices for teaching one of our 10 core Social Thinking concepts—which build on each other and foster the development of social competencies. The concepts are taught from the perspective of Social Thinking’s Social Competency Model, to help refine students’ social attention, interpretation, problem solving, and responses within social contexts. We also share the Social Thinking products our clinicians use to extend the teaching of these concepts with different age groups.

Whether you’re new to Social Thinking or have used the methodology for years, this series gives you a framework for diving deep into a foundational social concept each month—which we find greatly benefits even the smartest students. While Social Thinking offers a myriad of treatment frameworks and strategies, these 10 foundational concepts are a great place to anchor and expand your students’ social-emotional learning at school, home, and in the community.

About This Webinar: The Group Plan

Teachers depend on students figuring out how to read the group plan for a classroom to run effectively; peers depend on peers reading the group plan to hang out, play a game, or engage in project-based learning. Michelle Garcia Winner, the founder of Social Thinking, explores why this concept is essential to social interactions across ages and cultures, how to teach it to students, and what resources can help. The group plan is to be taught after your students understand and are using the first two concepts discussed in the webinars thoughts and feelings and thinking with your eyes.

After watching this webinar on the group plan, infuse your teaching with the concept over the next month to help your students understand it deeply and meaningfully (avoid memorization). Then, tune in to the next webinar to learn how to build on this concept with best practices for teaching the concept body in the group!
