We are currently accepting applications for the following Fall 2008 Mentor Training Sessions: - Tuesday, September 16 – Thursday, September 18 - Monday, October 6 – Wednesday, October 8 - Monday, November 10 – Wednesday, November 12 - **Monday, December 1 – Friday, December 5 (** Please read more)
The Mentor Training program has been running for the last 8 years, providing intensive 3 day training in social thinking concepts and demonstration therapy. It is open to all professionals of all disciplines related to the treatment of social thinking (social workers, psychologists, speech language pathologists, educators, behaviorists, occupational therapists, etc.).
The training allows for the professionals to spend time meeting each day with a clinician from our social thinking clinic and then observing for the rest of the time the sessions we run at our clinic based in San Jose, California.
The purpose of the training is to provide an intensive exposure to the theory and practice of applying social thinking across a range of students. It is expected that all participants of the mentor training already have familiarized themselves with the basic social thinking concepts either by attending a two day workshop or reading 2 of the core books written by Michelle Garcia Winner on social thinking. All participants apply by writing a paragraph about themselves indicating how they will be using the information.

Team Based Training For School Districts
Michelle or one of her clinicians will provide direct training to members of school districts in the Bay Area of California. In addition to consulting on specific cases for very limited periods of time, Michelle has also worked with school districts to develop their own "Social Thinking Team". Given the time constraints of the professionals who work at the Center, only two school districts participate in this program each year. School districts that have participated in this type of training so far include: San Lorenzo, Fremont and New Haven. Currently Michelle is working with Moreland and Cupertino School Districts.
Social Thinking Team Trainings require that a school district provide:
- A team of professionals (speech language pathologists, school psychologists, special education teachers) who can meet for 3 hours one time a month across a single school year.
- The school district must also provide a person within the administration to attend the majority of the meetings to help consult on policy discussed during these training sessions.
These teams have proven to be effective in providing school districts with more highly trained personnel to help meet the needs of the students and parents.
The fee for these trainings is based on Michelle’s consulting fee of $200.00 per hour. Travel time to the site is also billed.
Please contact Michelle directly for more information about this type of training at information@socialthinking.com or take a look at some comments regarding the mentor programs.
