There is usually an 8 – 12 month wait for an evaluation consultation appointment. All evaluations are done in conjunction with the professional trainings and will be observed by trainees.
The evaluation consultation is NOT required prior to placement in a social thinking group.
Average cost: $500.00 (*A written report is an additional fee.)
This fee includes:
- .5 hour reviewing reports and initial phone calls or emails.
- 2.5 hour office visit to get to know your student’s strengths and weaknesses, discuss concerns of the caregivers as they relate to home and school functioning, review educational plan, discuss modifications in treatment plan and options for treatment across environments.
- The assessment process completed by several of our clinicians, generally involves minimal or no use of standardized assessments. Michelle has developed an informal assessment that she has found to be very useful in exploring the social/academic skills of the student. More information on the assessment can be found in the last chapter of her book, Thinking About You Thinking About Me.
- Additional time over the 3.0 hour scheduled appointment is billed at $155/hour.
- Learning about your student to better understand group or individual therapy needs.
- A $250 non-refundable deposit is required to hold the appointment slot. The deposit will be applied to the final assessment cost.
*Initial family intakes do not include a written report. If a report is requested it is billed additionally at $155.00 per hour. See the assessment information for a more detailed description & explanation of assessment-evaluation policies.
Post Evaluation and Consultation time:
$155.00/hour
Includes report-writing (generally takes 2-4 hours), follow up meetings, attending the IEP meeting at the school. Travel will be billed at the hourly consultation rate. Telephone, email and other consultations over 15 minutes long with families and professionals working on the client’s team will be billed to the family at the hourly consultation rate.
Individual Therapy Services at my office:
$155.00/hour
We have very limited openings for individual therapy, especially during the after school hours since group therapy is the priority at our clinic. We have much more scheduling flexibility for students who can come for individual sessions prior to 3pm in the afternoon.
Weekly Therapy Groups:
Group Sessions $105.00/hour
Group size is generally between 3-4 participants. The group consists of approximately 50 minutes of direct therapy for the students and 10 minutes of parent education each week. Our clinical staff goes above and beyond in coordinating the group placements, however, on some occasions students initial placements are not successful. We will coordinate with you in this event.
Small Group and Pre School Group Sessions:
$125.00/hour
Small groups consist of only 2 students. The purpose of the small group is to accommodate the more unique needs of students with very slow auditory processing, very weak ability to take perspective of others or have significant behavioral challenges. We prefer to serve students in the larger group size and will move your child to the larger group when we all feel it is an appropriate time.
Pre School groups consist of 2-4 students and are held exclusively at the Social Thinking Stevens Creek site.
The group consists of approximately 50 minutes of direct therapy for the students and 10 minutes of parent education each week.
Attendance Policy for students in therapy groups:
Group work is dependent upon all group members attending as many sessions as possible. Groups run from September through Mid-June. Our clinic closes for the two weeks of the winter holiday and for the national holidays of Labor Day, (2) days for Thanksgiving, President’s Day, and Memorial Day. Applicants must make every effort to attend sessions as scheduled by the therapist. Over the course of the school year students starting between September and December will be allowed 2 absences for any reason including illnesses. Students starting after January will be allowed 1 absence for any reason including illnesses. You can use these 2 days without being charged for missing your group time at the clinic. Any days missed beyond the allowable will be billed.
On the rare occasion that everyone is absent from the group except for one child, we will still hold the session, but it will be an individual session to focus on your child’s specific needs the therapist has been observing. This is a good situation since we almost always wish we had some individual time to work with each of these kids; the students will still be billed at the group therapy rate. We will not call families to let them know that the child will have an individual session, as we don’t often hear about absences until the last minute. If a parent chooses to not come for the session knowing another group member is out, this will count as one of the two excused absences or will be billed as an unexcused absence.
Social Thinking Clinics are training clinics:
The groups run at our Social Thinking Clinics, will be observed at times by professionals who come from all over the world to study our techniques and observe and at times participate in treatment sessions. Confidential information about your child will not be shared with them beyond what the professional who may be interning with us needs to know to plan an effective lesson. Any time a professional interns at our clinic they will ALWAYS be accompanied by the group’s lead clinician and all planning will be implemented only after it is approved by the lead clinician. All clients applying for services from the Social Thinking Clinics understand and agree to the training component at the clinic.
