In addition to exploring the evolution of teaching methods and ideology related to Social Thinking, Michelle will examine the latest ideas related to teaching social emotional processing and responses as they vary across ages.

  • Describe the concept of “Emotional Expression Compression” as it relates to teens and adults.
  • Describe how the above mentioned concept is used in treatment to help with emotion regulation.

Michelle received a Congressional award for developing the Social Thinking assessment and treatment program that assists individuals with diagnosed and undiagnosed social-communicative challenges. Students with high-functioning autism, Asperger syndrome, PDD-NOS, ADHD and nonverbal learning disorders (NLD) have benefited from this treatment approach. Research published in the  Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders supported Michelle’s methodologies for higher-functioning autism and Asperger’s.
