Kamp Talkalot! Social thinking concepts are used to increase the child’s knowledge of what others expect socially. Children learn to adapt their language to fit the situation through fun activities. This cutting-edge program was designed to help children learn to improve their ability to interact and communicate with their peers.
Learning objectives
1. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of how to prepare for or set up an intensive social thinking/communication intervention program.
2. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of activities and social thinking concepts used in an intensive social communication program.
3. The learner will demonstrate an understanding of parent communication activities used in an intensive social communication program.
Presenters
Anita Werner, M.S., CCC/SLP, is director of Pediatric Speech and Language Specialists, a private practice dedicated to evaluation and treatment of individuals with communication and learning challenges in Scottsdale and Chandler Arizona. Kamp Talkalot, the foundation for this presentation, integrates Social Thinking concepts into an intensive fun summer camp program.
Laura Miller, M.S., CFY-SLP, is a speech language pathologist at Pediatric Speech and Language Specialists in Scottsdale, Arizona. Professional interests include Social Thinking, early intervention, and auditory-oral training for individuals with hearing loss. Laura has experience facilitating Social Thinking intervention with children ranging from preschoolers to young adults.
