June 27 8:30-10:30: Cutting-Edge Social Thinking: The Newest Thoughts on the Social Thinking Perspective Taking Rating Scale and Superflex

The latest addition to the Perspective Taking Rating Scale will be introduced with related discussion and video clips to represent different levels of the scale. Dr. Pam Crooke will give an update on research projects related to Social Thinking. Stephanie Madrigal will provide a review of Superflex and the direction of the program within the context of its broad, grass-roots adoption and growth.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe different students they have worked with that fit into each of the 6 different points on the perspective taking scale.
  2. Describe differing how treatment varies for each of the groups represented by the 6 point STPTS.
  3. With regards to Superflex the Curriculum: Describe strategies for the “Unthinkable” Brain Eater that can be used by Superflex to defeat Brain Eater’s powers.

Presenters

Pam is the senior therapist at Social Thinking and part of the social-cognitive team, as well as a faculty member of San Jose State University in San Jose, CA. She authored, with Michelle Garcia Winner, Socially Curious and Curiously Social, a guidebook for teenagers and young adults with Asperger's, HFA and similar, and You Are a Social Detective, a comic book curriculum for younger kids and their caregivers that introduces Social Thinking concepts and the Social Thinking Vocabulary through a variety of engaging, structured lessons.

Stephanie is a therapist on the clinical team with Michelle and Pam, and is the author of the Superflex superhero curriculum. She is known for her innovation in creating new materials for use in therapy and for her warm and friendly rapport with her students and their families both in thearpy and through the materials she creates.

Michelle started Social Thinking, directs its small clinic and has authored many books on the subject, including co-authoring those listed above with Pam and Stephanie.
