Description
The iPad has fast become THE tool of interest for SLPs and other professionals (and parents) interested in interactive technologies for student learning. The device's ease of use and potential for engagement, when combined with apps that provide a multisensory means to display and interact with information and language, make it well-suited for use in Social Thinking instruction. This presentation will demonstrate a selection of iPad apps that can be easily “re-purposed” for instruction, including comic creation and animation apps, image annotation, drawing and “explanimation” apps, project creation apps for group-based cooperative activities, and apps for information display and behavior tracking. Resources for further learning and app evaluation will also be provided.
Objectives
- Participants will be able to explain rationales for employing iPad apps in Social Thinking instruction.
- Participants will employe apps to demonstrate Social Thinking concepts within comin/animation creation, information display, and behavior tracking.
- Participants will access resources for further learning on "re-purposed" iPad apps.
