The Providers Conference is a time for practitioners of Social Thinking, nationally and internationally, to come together to learn, share ideas and network. As the “Social Thinking movement” grows the hope is for attendees to gain knowledge and not have to “re‐create the wheel” as they develop practical programs and services allowing them to expand upon what others have shared.
PURPOSE OF THE CONFERENCE
- Encourage professionals who are running Social Thinking programs both in schools and private practice settings to come together to network, brainstorm and problem solve the delivery of Social Thinking services.
-
Report on research projects currently in progress or that have been completed.
-
Provide a means for sharing new and diverse topics related to Social Thinking and the treatment of individuals with social learning challenges.
- Provide an opportunity for professionals, individually or in teams to share their unique diagnostic, treatment or service delivery models related to Social Thinking.
- Share new data collection or qualitative assessment methods to assist professionals and students on the application of teaching Social Thinking concepts.
2013 Workshop Theme:
Respecting Those with Social Thinking Challenges: Teams Stand Up to Bullies and Beyond

Teaching Social Thinking through Stories & Play for Preschool and Early Elementary
In this workshop, we will explore early development of the social mind, how to encourage the social learning of our young students and build the foundation for collaboration school and at home. We will introduce the Preschool and Early Elementary Social Thinking Vocabulary and demonstrate how to teach these concepts through storybooks, music, structured activities, and play. The Preschool and Early Elementary Vocabulary includes: Thoughts and Feelings, The Group Plan, Thinking With Your Eyes, Body in the Group, Whole Body Listening, Expected/Unexpected, Smart Guess, Flexible and Stuck Thinking, Size of the Problem, and Sharing an Imagination. Strategies for home and school are designed for young children with average to strong language and learning abilities.

ZOOMING IN on TWO NEW Social Thinking® Conferences which focus on Lessons and Strategies to Help in the Classroom and Beyond!
These two new workshop days are designed to compliment each other and will both take a deeper look at how to understand and design strategy-based Social Thinking lessons for our more concrete and literal learners versus those with more nuance based issues. We will zoom in and focus our attention on how to use checklists, activities, and other strategies to develop specific lessons that can be applied in more complex social environments like classrooms, playgrounds and the community for elementary through high school age students. Lessons will be framed within the context of select Common Core Standards (CCSs) with an emphasis on how to utilize the lessons with different team members (teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, peers, and parents). We will also share ideas for collecting different types of data to document individual students’ learning related to Social Thinking strategies
