Getting Started

Start with Social Fortune or Social Fate -- pre-adolescents and adolescents read this engaging graphic novel, going through a series of teaching anime comic book strips that inspire students to decide which way the story will continue! Choose wisely and the story unfolds with favorable social "fortune"...

Social Behavior Mapping teaches individuals about the specific relationship between behaviors, others' perspectives, others' actions (consequences) and the student's own emotions about those around him or her. For 3rd-12th grade students, this strategy is most effective for students with solid language skills.

One of Social Thinking's best selling books, Worksheets! for Teaching Social Thinking and Related Skills encourages students with Asperger's Syndrome, high-functioning autism spectrum disorders, ADHD and others to process more deeply what social thinking means to them. Developed from years of working with students with social-cognitive challenges, the worksheets also serve as lesson plans to introduce social thinking concepts. Educators then take these concepts and play with them through different activities they develop. The curriculum works best for grades 5-12. The worksheets are coded to suggest which ones are better for different aged students. There are some worksheets for young students (K-4), but the majority are for more sophisticated users. The worksheets are a valuable supplement to Thinking About You Thinking About Me and Think Social! Curriculum.

The Social Success Workbook for Teens: An Instant Help Book for Teens. In this book, students are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences through guided workbook tasks. Chapters include topics such as: What's different about my brain?; Cool down tools; Using positive self-talk. Each chapter kicks off with a "you need to know" section to encourage the students thinking about a particular topic. This book can be used as part of a group lesson or as individual work for a student to think about in his own free time. This book, like all the others in the series, will also help parents think of ways in which they can engage their children in discussions related to this topic.

Also, Thinking About You Thinking About Me 2nd edition, Inside out: What Makes a Person With Social Cognitive Deficits Tick? and Think Social! A Social Thinking Curriculum for School-Age Students are solid, core books for use with this age group as they are for any school age group...
